Aerospace Prototype Machining

Prototype programs live or die on the time from drawing release to first part in hand. Because a failed first article on a prototype delays a program schedule, not just a delivery date.

Prototype Program Structure

Every prototype RFQ receives a drawing review before a price is issued. This is not an optional service — it is how we quote. The review includes specific, drawing-referenced notes on features that represent machining risk, with alternatives where applicable.

If the review requires drawing revision, we can respond to the revised drawing quickly — typically within four hours if the revision is limited in scope. If you need to get to a first article without revising the drawing, we document the risk in the program record and proceed on your authorization.

Prototype to Production Transition

Prototype programs that move to production do not require a re-qualification process from scratch. The production traveler is built from the prototype program record. The setup sheets, material selection, and inspection strategy from the prototype are carried forward into production — updated for any design changes, not rebuilt from zero.

Documentation on Prototype Runs

Prototype parts ship with the same documentation package as production parts: CoC, material certifications traced to heat lot, and a dimensional inspection report. First Article Inspection packages are available on prototype programs upon request.

Prototype Programs We Support

Structural Prototype Hardware

First-article structural brackets, fittings, and frames for fit-check and structural test programs. Material is typically to final production specification (not a lower-grade substitute) so that prototype test results are representative of production hardware.

Development Engine Hardware

Development parts for engine programs where the production design is not yet finalized. Drawing review at the prototype stage is where design changes are least expensive — before tooling decisions, production routing, and supplier qualification commitments are made.

Wind Tunnel and Test Models

Precision aluminum and titanium models for aerodynamic test programs. These applications require tight dimensional accuracy on external contour surfaces — achieved through 5-axis simultaneous machining — and aggressive schedules driven by wind tunnel booking constraints.
