/ FIRST ARTICLE INSPECTION
First Article Inspection Built During Production
FAI documentation is assembled throughout the production process — not the day before delivery. Your receiving inspection finds a complete package, not a file assembled from memory.
/ HOW WE BUILD FAI
What Goes Into a Velocity CNC FAI Package
A first article inspection package that was assembled the day before delivery is a different document than one that was built during production. The measurements may be identical, but the confidence behind the documentation is not.
Our FAI packages are built throughout the production process. Material certifications are logged when stock is received. In-process dimensional checks are recorded at the setup approval and at documented inspection points during machining. The final CMM report is run against the full drawing dimension list, not a subset. The complete package — certifications, process records, dimensional data, CoC — ships with the hardware.

/ FAI PACKAGE CONTENTS
What Ships in the FAI Package
- Certificate of Conformance referencing drawing revision and material spec
- Material certifications with heat lot numbers traced to each part
- Dimensional inspection report — all dimensions ballooned and measured by CMM
- Setup approval sign-off and in-process inspection records
- Special process certifications where applicable (surface treatment, heat treat)
- Non-conformance documentation and disposition if any discrepancy was dispositioned
If your program requires additional documentation — specific form formats, digital records, or program-unique requirements — contact our engineering team before submitting the RFQ so those requirements can be scoped into the program.
/ WHEN FAI IS REQUIRED
What Triggers an FAI at Velocity CNC
First article inspection is performed for:
- New part numbers (first-time production)
- Design changes — drawing revision changes requiring re-inspection of affected features
- Process changes that affect part conformance (material, machining process, tooling changes)
- Production gaps — re-activation of parts not produced within a defined interval
When your RFQ arrives, we note whether the part number is new, in active production, or returning from a gap. FAI requirements are addressed in the quoting response.
Submit an RFQ — FAI Package Included
Submit your drawing and we'll respond with a quote within 24 hours. FAI documentation requirements are addressed in the quoting response.
